The new equipment, by Safeplay Systems of Marietta, is made of state-of-the-art materials by EcoPlay. The durable material offers the practical advantages of plastic while maintaining the natural look of wood. The material never needs painting, treating or sealing and will not splinter, crack, decay or degrade. It is also impermeable to water and therefore will not swell, split or rust. All of these features make it a cost-effective material that will provide many years of fun for children in our community.
Another change was in the playground's surface. Instead of the sand traditionally used, the areas were floored with SAF-DEK, a rubberized material made from post-consumer recycled tire rubber. The flooring is a low-maintenance material which better cushions the occasional fall of a little one. The material, known for its durability, is used by McDonald's and Disney World in their playgrounds.
"Over the past fifteen years, Newnan Utilities' Carl Miller Park has been a place for the community to gather and enjoy the outdoors in a fun, safe setting. These renovations will allow future generations to enjoy the park for many years to come," said Melanie Kennebeck, Director of Corporate Development.
