Q | I cannot connect to the Internet.
A | Look at your cable modem and verify that the "Cable" light is blinking. If so, tighten the Coax cable connection and restart your PC. If you still cannot access the Internet, call Newnan Utilities Technical Support at 770-683-5516.
Q | All the lights are off on my cable modem.
A | Power cycle the modem by unplugging the power connector from the back of the modem, then reconnect it. If the lights are on after that, restart your PC. This should restore your internet connection.
Q | The lights on my cable modem look normal, but I can't get online.
A | Check your Ethernet Cable (CAT 5) connection. If the "Link" light is lit on your modem and on the back of your PC, you have a connection. You will need to reboot any additional equipment between your PC and cable modem (i.e. Routers, Hubs, and Switches). If you are still are unable to get online call us at 770-683-5516 for further assistance.
Q | I'm getting a "ALOPA" webpage when trying to access the Internet.
A | Call Newnan Utilities Technical Support at 770-683-5516.
Q | My laptop was online at work, but when I come home I can't get online.
A | Check your proxy settings: In Internet Explorer go to Tools > Internet Options and under Connections, click "LAN Settings". Uncheck all items under LAN settings, including "Use a proxy server for your LAN".
Q | How can I add another PC to my Acceleron service? Are there additional fees?
A | The easiest way to add another PC is to use a router. A router is a unit that provides firewall protection and traffic routing. Depending on the manufacture, you may require the purchase of additional CAT5 cables for each PC. There is a fee of $65.00 for a Newnan Utilities technician to install a router at your location at the time of your original Acceleron installation. If a router is requested after the original Acceleron installation, an additional $25.00 trip charge will apply.
Q | Can I use a wireless router with my Acceleron service?
A | Yes, wireless routers do exactly what typical router does, but wirelessly. Wireless isn't for everyone. Depending on the situation, it may slow your Acceleron service, or even cause you to lose connectivity. If you decide to go with a wireless router, be sure to also purchase a compatible wireless adapter for your PC or laptop.
Q | I have a router. How do I make it work with my Acceleron service?
A | The router will need to be configured using DHCP (obtaining an IP address from the server). After configuring the router, you may need to reboot your PC and router. If you are unable to get online with the router connected, contact the router manufacturer. Routers may be used with Acceleron service, but Newnan Utilities does not provide technical support for them.
