Updating Your Personal Webspace With Dreamweaver MX

Step 1

Dreamweaver permits you to create and edit web pages and to include text, text-formatting, and images. Normally, Dreamweaver will prompt you for “Remote Site” information when you first create a new site. If you are currently creating a new site within Dreamweaver, you may go directly to the Site Definition dialog box in example 3 below. However, if you wish to edit an existing site:

Click Site from the Menu Bar

Click Edit Sites… from the menu

Step 4

The Remote Info page contains information needed to successfully transfer your web content to the Newnan Utilities server.
Ensure that Access is set to FTP.

If you are updating your personal website, you will include your first initial and last name as well as “.acceleron.net”. For example, your domain may look something like:

jsmith.acceleron.net

If however, you are updating a hosted site that IS NOT a personal website, you will just supply your domain name:

jsmithcorp.com

Your Host Directory should look very similar to the example. For example your Host Directory may look something like:

/domains/jsmithcorp.com/public_html/

Lastly, you will be required to supply a username and password. Please enter your username and password and then click OK

Step 5

The pages that you have created using Dreamweaver are stored on your computer (also known as your local folder). Publishing your website is the process of “copying” your local pages to your Newnan Utilities server (also known as your remote folder). This process will permit everyone to view your web pages on the World Wide Web.

Press the Expand/Collapse button to view the contents of your remote folder

Step 6

Once you have expanded the viewing area of Dreamweaver to include both Local and Remote folders, connect to the Remote host by clicking the Connect button.

Step 7

From the remote folder (right-hand pane), You will notice upon inspection of your remote folder (left-hand pane) that you already have several files contained within the folder. At this point, you may simply click and drag the content from your local folder (right pane) to your remote folder (left pane). It may also be beneficial to consult your Dreamweaver documentation or user’s manual to explore other options.
Once you have successfully transferred your files, it is always a good idea to do the following to verify that your pages have been published to the web correctly.

Click the Disconnect from Remote Server Button.

Close Dreamweaver.

Open a web browser such as Internet Explorer.
Verify that your web site has been updated by visiting the site using your web browser. It may be necessary to click your refresh button to view the most current page.
