Setting Up E-mail in Outlook Express

There are several ways to access your E-mail with Acceleron service. Access E-mail from any Internet-connected computer using Newnan Utilities' WebMail service. WebMail is particularly useful when away from home on business or vacation. Webmail customization information here.

To access your E-mail from home, you can use one of many E-mail programs (also called E-mail Clients). Perhaps the most widely-used E-mail program is Outlook Express. Outlook Express is automatically installed as part of Microsoft's Internet Explorer.

Step 1

To access Outlook Express from your desktop:

1. Select Start

2. Select Programs or All Programs

3. Select Outlook Express

Once Outlook Express has been opened, you will see one of three screens:

- If Outlook Express is not currently your default E-mail program, you will be prompted to make it the default program. If prompted, answer "Yes" to make Outlook Express your default E-mail program.

- If Outlook Express has not been previously configured, you will automatically be taken to the Internet Connection Wizard
(see Figure 1.6).

If however Outlook Express has been previously opened or configured, you will see the following:

From the Opening Window:

1. Select Tools from the Menu

2. Select Accounts

After selecting the options above, you will be taken to the Internet Accounts Window.

From the Internet Accounts Window:

1. Select the Mail tab

If you have previously set up Outlook Express as an E-mail client, you may see other accounts listed.

From the Internet Accounts Window:

1. Select Add

2. Select Mail

After selecting the options above, you will be taken to the Internet Connection Wizard.

Upon entry into the Internet Connection Wizard, you will be asked to enter your Display name. This name will be the name that appears when someone is viewing your messages. Typically, your Display name is your first and last name, and may contain both upper and lower-case letters.

After entering you Display name, click Next.

After entering your Display name, you will be prompted to enter your E-mail address. Your E-mail address should be exactly as it appears on your data reference card.

After entering your E-mail address, you will be prompted to enter server information.

You can choose POP3 or IMAP as your server type.
Note: the server type you choose will change the functionality of Outlook Express. The most common is POP3 but advanced users prefer IMAP.

Your server type is POP3 or IMAP
Your Incoming server name is mail.numail.org
Your Outgoing server name is mail.numail.org
After entering your server information, click Next.

What's the difference between POP3 and IMAP ? POP3, "pops" the inbox on the mail server, and downloads the new messages to your computer. IMAP downloads the headers of the new messages on the server, and retrieves the message by you clicking on it.

Step 9

After entering your server information, you will be prompted to enter your Logon information.

1. Please ensure that your Account Name is your full E-mail address entered exactly as it appears on your data reference card.

2. Please enter your password in the space provided exactly as it appears on your data reference card.

After entering your Logon information, click Next.

After entering all the information above, the Internet Connection Wizard will prompt you to save your changes by selecting the finish button.

Click Finish to save your changes.

After completing the Internet Connection Wizard, return to the Internet Accounts window (figure 1.4), click close to return to the Outlook Express Main Window (Figure 1.2).

To ensure that all settings have been entered successfully, send yourself a test email. Once sent, periodically click the Send/Recv button on your toolbar to see if the message is delivered.
