All of the source water provided by Newnan Utilities is surface water from streams and lakes. It is pumped from Line Creek, Sandy Creek, Brown Creek and White Oak Creek into the storage reservoirs adjacent to the treatment plant.
Currently, our reservoir system, comprised of 9 lakes, holds 1.7 billion gallons of water. These large capacity reservoirs retain water that is later treated and distributed to our customers. This system also guarantees a water supply, even in drought conditions.
The Hershall B. Norred Water Plant recently underwent an extensive upgrade
to improve efficiency, capacity and quality. Ultraviolet water purification
has been added to achieve a multiple barrier against disease causing organisms.
Two new 1.5 million gallon-per-day filters were added to increase capacity.
A variety of other upgrades throughout the plant have increased efficiency
and reduced operational costs.
